John Bannon graduated from the University of Connecticut at Storrs with a major in history and a concentration in Journalism. After some time working as a carpenter and in publishing, John did some post-graduate work in education at The University of Saint Joseph’s were, after a stint of student teaching at Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester, Vermont, he received his teaching certification
John began his teaching career at Black River High School in 2001, and has been teaching there ever since. During that time he has taught courses in World History, U.S. History, A.P. U.S. History, and Media Studies. John conceived and developed the curriculum for the inaugural media studies course in 2003, which eventually became an entire course of studies within the social studies department. For years John produced a television program, B.R.T.V., created by the students from the media department which aired on Okemo Valley T.V.. He was also president of the Ludlow Education Association, the local teacher’s union, for many years before stepping down this past spring. John lives in Weston with his wife Amy, and his three sons have all attended Black River High School.
